‘I was victim of random kidnapping’, says freed NTA reporter

Olubunmi Lawal Oke, the NTA journalist abducted for three days in the western Nigerian state of Ondo, has said her abductors did not even know who she was and she was merely a victim of ‘random kidnapping’.

The newscaster spoke with the Punch newspaper in an interview published Tuesday, narrating her almost 72 hour ordeal in the hands of the kidnapping gang.

Can you recollect events that led to your kidnapping?
I noticed a car following me at a high speed when I drove out of my office, moments after I closed for the day. I increased the speed at which I was driving and I rolled up my car window.

Very close to Jojein Hotel on Oba-Ile Road, the road was very bad. So I had to slow down to manoeuvre through the potholes. It was at that point that they levelled up with me and blocked the car.
What happened after that?
I asked them what my offence was. I even offered them my car keys but three of them armed with guns dragged me out of my car and into their own car. One of them got into my car and drove behind us.

Did you see where they were taking you to?
They drove through Owode to FUTA and to Ondo. They told me they were taking me to Delta State but when we got to Ore, they covered my eyes. They blindfolded me from Thursday night till Saturday night when I was released. So it was impossible for me to know where I was.

We learnt that your house girl and your six-month-old baby were with you in the car?
My housemaid and baby were in the car with me initially. They (Kidnappers) dropped them on the road before driving my car away. They later got home in a public transport. I learnt they later abandoned my car at Igbara-Oke.
Did you suspect anyone as being responsible for your ordeal?
No. Nobody sent them to me. It was a case of random kidnapping. I just walked into their hands. I don’t think anyone sent them to me because they were asking me a series of questions, ‘Where do you work?’ ‘Who are you?’

I think that showed clearly that they did not know anything about me. I think the car I was driving coupled with the way I was dressed (I read news that evening; so I still had my clothes and jewellery on), made them think I was a good catch.

How will you describe your experience in their hands?
“My experience in their hands was not palatable. For days, I could only drink water.

As Beckham ran up to curve a ball into the top corner of the goal he took a terrible fall and slipped up into the air before crashing into the ground. Perhaps the Paris St Germain midfielder should have worn a pair of his customised adidas football boots, rather than his smart shoes.

Meanwhile, the former England captain has vowed to promote football in China over a long period of time, and make it one of the most popular leagues in the world.

‘Thank you for having me in your wonderful city’, wrote Beckham on Friday after being mobbed upon his arrival in Qingdao.

Beckham, who has played four games for new side Paris Saint-Germain and completed his first 90 minutes last week before the international break, said: ‘I want people to realise this is not a short-term project.
‘It is something that we are very passionate about changing the mentality of the league and bringing youngsters through and making this league as popular as some of the big leagues in the world.’
He continued: ‘I’ve always been a fan of Chinese football because I think the players are very talented and they are very passionate.

‘When you see the excitement throughout this country when the team has done well you see how important it is to people. I am excited to make a difference.’

Report says that Wizkid and EME bosses have been going back and forth for the last couple of weeks through their lawyers trying to agree on new terms of them working together again.

They are working on a new contract that will favour Wizkid, this new contract will see the label not gaining or collecting anything from his international deal.

Wizkid and EME had issues with sharing of monies from shows and investment in the past which resulted in Wizkid leaving the Label to start his own label called 'Star Boy Entertainment'.

UNBELIEVABLE: Man Rapes Daughter & 15 Months Old Granddaughter

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old truck driver for  raping his seven year-old daughter and his one-year-old granddaughter. The suspect, Sylvester Ehijere,  disvirgined the two girls at his home located at 13 Kolawole Street, Ejigbo.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, said it was the suspect’s wife that reported the matter to the Ejigbo Police Division. She said, “The suspect’s wife, Margeret, alleged that she kept her granddaughter who is 15 months old with her nanny and when she returned home, she noticed that the baby was crying.

“On inspecting her body, she noticed blood stains at her private part. When she asked what happened, her seven-year-old daughter said it was her dad that did it. “The daughter also alleged that he had raped her on numerous occassions. The children were later taken to Isolo General Hospital where it was confirmed that they had indeed been disvirgined.”

Boat With 166 Passengers Sinks In Nigeria With Only Two Survivors

A wooden boat carrying 166 people from Southeastern Nigeria capsized about 40 nautical miles off the coast, with only two known survivors, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said on Tuesday.

The boat left on Friday from the remote town of Oron, in Cross River state and was heading to Gabon. David Akate, head of NEMA in Cross River, confirmed the incident.

Bomb Blast UPDATE: 60 killed, Dozens Injured + More Photos

Kano State has been thrown into pandemonium as a bomb went off at New Road, Sabon Gari area of the city.
A witness said the bomb exploded at the hub of a commercial Luxury Bus park usually filled with commuters going from Kano to the South.
Another witness said an Improvised Explosive Device, IED, was planted near the park causing one of the buses to go up in flames.

A recent report showed that four dead bodies have been brought in to the accident and emergency ward of Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital and many men, women and children wounded.
Recent report claims that over 60 passengers were killed while dozens got injured following the explosion.
Several other casualties have also been evacuated to other hospitals across the town for emergency treatment.
The blast affected both passengers in the bus that was about to exit the park and many others within the vicinity of the park.
The blast caused a stampede with many people getting hurt and cars crashing.

Details are still sketchy with some sources saying the explosion emanated from a car parked beside the bus while others claim it was from within the bus.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Police in Kano, Magaji Majiya, confirmed the incident. He however, said he has not gotten the full details.
The area has now been cordoned off by soldiers and police officers.

At the moment, no one can confirm the status of casualties in this attack as effort to contact the police or JTF was not successful as at the time of compiling this report; however residents say the area was combed by JTF.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but Boko Haram, which has frequently attacked the city, was a prime suspect. A spokesman for security forces in Kano state, Ikedehia Iwehia, said dead and wounded were being evacuated.

The sect often targets Christians.
"I ran for my dear life and managed to get out of the park after the second blast. Many people are lying dead. See, my clothes are covered in blood," said witness Ibrahim Bello, holding up a blood-soaked shirt.
